My Empties

IMG_6271

Happy Sunday! Recently I have been seeing/reading about ‘my empties’ and was curious what the hype was all about. Simply put, beauty influencers are showing what products they have just finished and the now empties are in their garbage bin. They are talking about what they liked or didn’t like about the product and if they would purchase it again.

If you have been a long-time reader of my blog, you likely know I am a bit of a beauty junkie myself, so I was excited to hear about this concept.  I like to learn about new skincare products and makeup and can often be found searching new products on the market and researching what the new trends are.

When I was working full-time and had a consistent income, I was able to afford luxurious (within reason) beauty products. Now that I live the freelance life and my paycheque is irregular, it has made me very conscious of my spending habits. I cannot just pick up a trendy lipstick or eyeshadow on a whim anymore.

Please be advised that although these products have worked well for me, everyone’s skin is different and has its own unique needs. Therefore, I would recommend having a consultation with either a consultant at your local drug store or department store, or if you have severe concerns to book an appointment with a dermatologist.

This post is not sponsored, nor am I affiliated with any of the company’s/brands mentioned.

Here is an overview of my recent empties:

  • I have used Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff every morning for several years to make my eye look awake. I love how it feels and a little goes a long way. I would highly recommend this eye cream.
  • As a Sephora VIB member I redeemed the trial size Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer as part of my free birthday gift. This moisturizer kept my skin hydrated but unfortunately the $90 price tag is not in my budget right now. I have other more affordable moisturizers that do the job just as well.
  • Currently I have two high-quality serums that I really love and see an improvement in my skin’s appearance with regular use. My Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum is running low and I am torn if I should by another bottle of it, or my other favorite serum. Hmmm, it’s a tough choice and I am going to wait until the other serum gets closer to running out to decide, as I am indecisive for the time being.
  • When I received a complimentary sample of Fresh’s Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment in sheer pink, I was hooked on first use. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can justify the high price tag, when Burt Bees is much more budget friendly and gives the same result.
  • I have found my all-time favourite lipstick brand, bareMinerals. Their lipsticks are creamy in texture, moisturizing and come in a range of colours that are perfect for me, not to vibrant. My go-to nude colour is xox. Hands down I will be purchasing bareMinerals GEN NUDE Radiant Lipstick again in the near future!

  • After trying numerous expensive liquid foundations, I realized many of them didn’t make the cut. I am happy to say I use Covergirl +Olay Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Liquid Foundation in buff beige when I want my skin to look flawless for the entire day. I am happy to add it to my bag when I need a refill and my wallet thanks me.

  • I had a small tear in my eye when I squeezed the last drop of lotion out of my tube from my vacation at Sandals Barbados. It was lightweight and smelled amazing (I haven’t found anything that mimics it). I don’t think you can buy this body lotion online, so it is definitely not affordable, since a vacation to a Sandals resort would be required.

My tea cup is also empty and it is always a good idea for a refill!

After an unfortunate layoff in the summer of 2018, it made me think of where I wanted my career to go in the future. A year later, I decided to go out on my own and offer communications services (predominantly content creation) on a freelance basis to clients. I also enjoy photography, travelling, listening to music, cooking and baking. I am also a dog lover and have a beautiful yellow lab. Thank you for visiting and I hope you come back again soon!
